Marcio Lopes (Graduado Beleza) – Short Biography
Marcio Lopes, or Graduado Beleza, as he is know in capoeira, started capoeira in his native Angola with the international organisation, ABADA Capoeira. Beleza brought capoeira with him when he came to South Africa to study ten years ago. The first person to start consistent capoeira classes in Cape Town, Beleza taught capoeira throughout his IT degree. On completing his studies in 2005, he turned to capoeira full time. A recognised teacher in ABADA Capoeira, Beleza retains close ties with Brazil, returning annually to train. Passionate about developing capoeira in South Africa – and the capacity capoeira has to develop South Africa – Marcio is a co-founder of CEYA and the current Director. He teaches and oversees all decision making processes in CEYA. Marcio won the 2009 Inyathelo Young Philanthropists award along with Anna for his work with CEYA.
